Clinton, Iowa grain elevator coming down

Postby railzfan on Sun Jul 22, 2007 12:34 am

Hello everyone,

As some of you may know, ADM is demolishing the old concrete elevator on 5th street in Clinton, Iowa. Known by some as “Mr. Peanut” because of it’s large Planters Nuts billboard on the east side of the elevator house. It’s a historic landmark (not in the National Registry) in Clinton, many people, including myself, will miss the elevator in our photos, it made for such a great backdrop and looked impressive too.

Union Pacific is fighting ADM on the demolition of the elevator, UP is concerned that the structure may fall over the mainline, closing it for days. I have not heard anything further on this issue, if I do you all will be the first to know.
