Heading West...
Here we are once again heading west, it’s hard to believe that an entire year has passed since the last time we where in Colorado! This year we decided to take I-80 from Chicago to I-39 in central Illinois and it north up through Wisconsin to St. Paul, MN., and then across North Dakota into Montana, Wyoming, Colorado and finally into Utah...in search of DRGW 5371, the only surviving DRGW locomotive in operation on the UP system. DRGW 5371, a SD40T-2, is currently in operation in Salt Lake City, UT.
Day 1: Illinois and Wisconsin
Not a whole lot to report today, just a lot of driving through Illinois and Wisconsin. We stopped for about an hour in Rochelle to have lunch and to visit with some good friends of ours and watch trains. Train traffic was rather light, only a few BNSF stack trains and the BNSF local operating with three BN Cascade Green Geeps, not something you see everyday! After a short time in Rochelle we once again hit the road, by this time it was only hours before it got dark, so not a whole lot to tell you about other than..well...dark all around me! I will be posting a Trip Report like this one every day that there is something of interest to inform you about, as we progress on our trip this report will grow in length and include many photos!
Below are a few photos that I took today! Enjoy
